The Human Led Standard

Five commitments. Every profession.

A practical standard for introducing AI in a way that people can trust. Simple enough to explain to anyone, and specific enough for an organisation to be assessed against.

The five commitments

What every Human Led organisation commits to.

The commitments are the same in every profession. What good looks like in practice is shaped by each profession's own community.

01

Augment before replace

AI should first be used to make people more capable: faster, more accurate, more insightful and free to focus on the work that needs human judgement. Removing roles should never be the starting assumption.

In practice: Before a new tool goes live, the organisation plans how the time it frees up will be used, and records that decision.
02

Retrain before redundancy

When AI changes a role, the people in it are offered a genuine route into new or better work before redundancy is considered. Some roles will still reduce. The standard is about the order of events and the fairness of the process.

In practice: A structured retraining offer with protected time, linked to a real role the organisation needs.
03

Human accountability

Every consequential decision has a named, accountable person behind it, whatever the level of AI involvement. People can challenge an AI output, and someone owns resolving that challenge.

In practice: Clear sign-off thresholds, an owner for every AI tool, and AI-assisted work included in audit and risk reviews.
04

Transparent AI

People understand where AI is used in their work and in the services they receive, what it does, and how it affects them. Those affected by an AI-assisted decision can get a human explanation.

In practice: Staff are told before a tool goes live, and customers can see when AI has shaped an outcome and ask about it.
05

Invest the productivity dividend

A fair share of the gains from AI is deliberately reinvested in people, skills and capability, and that reinvestment is visible to the people it affects.

In practice: Part of the saving funds training, better tools and higher-value roles, and the organisation reports on it.
How certification works

Independent, evidence based and reviewed by people.

Organisations become Human Led Certified by showing how they meet the five commitments. Nothing is automatic: every submission is read and reviewed.

A conversation

We talk through your organisation, your use of AI and what certification involves.

Your proposal

We agree the scope and fee, based on your organisation's size.

The assessment

Your nominated person completes a secure online assessment, with evidence, at their own pace.

Independent review

Our team reviews every answer and may ask for supporting documents.

Certification

Certified organisations receive a digital badge and a framed certificate, valid for two years.

Where it's available

Live in finance. Coming to every profession.

Certification is open now for employers and technology partners in finance, accounting and procurement through Human Led Finance. Legal, construction and surveying are next, with assessments being shaped alongside people from each profession.
